Unable to locate backup file – MSSQL
I recently upgraded my homelab’s hard drives.
Post migration I found my Windows Update SUSDB in a corrupt ‘Recovering ‘ state.
Having the MDF / LDF and BAK from before the drive migration I attempted to restore the latest full backup.
SQL Server Manager (SSMS) greeted me with this nondescript error:
Cannot access the specified path or file on the server. Verify that you have the necessary security privileges and that the path or file exists.
I checked and double checked the path and security permissions without any luck. Two other SharePoint databases were unable to resume data migration to the Secondary Availability Group (AG) node. Resuming synchronization I was met with a new problem:
Cannot use file '' for clustered server. Only formatted files on which the cluster resource of the server has a dependency can be used. Either the disk resource containing the file is not present in the cluster group or the cluster resource of the Sql Server does not have a dependency on it. CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
I finally had something to go off of! The new cluster disk I had created was not specified as a dependency for the SQL Server Cluster.
After editing the properties of the SQL Role in the cluster configuration all my issues were resolved.
